My Thoughts on BoA x Beenzino’s “No Matter What” Music Video

Boa collaborates with Beenzino on “No Matter What” for the SM Station project.

This music video!! I love the visuals so much!! The colors!! The shapes!! All the figures look like they’re made of paper, but done in a digital way that’s just more fluid than if this were a stop motion of paper cut figures. Already in love with the style. And the video is just all about flora and planets aka my favorite things.

I could probably watch this forever.

My Thoughts on NCT U’s “Without You” Music Video

NCT U releases their second single “Without You.”

To be honest, I feel like I’ve heard this song before. Something like EXO’s “Lucky.” Currently too lazy to check if it’s the same music producer, but it doesn’t sound like a very unique song. I think I’ll have to backpedal and say that “The 7th Sense” is the better track of the 2 and with the more interesting video. So far NCT U’s debut hasn’t wow-ed me, but that’s not all that different from EXO’s debut in that their debut wasn’t all that popular and then they exploded with “Wolf” in their following promotions. Who knows NCT U might pull an EXO like their seniors and have a ridiculously popular comeback.

My Thoughts on CHERRSEE’s “Mystery” Music Video

Brave Brothers debuts their first Japanese girl group CHERRSEE with “Mystery.”

You might recognize many sets from the video, as it was filmed in Korea (and the sets were used in other Brave Brothers videos) and features Bigstar’s Feeldog (also under Brave Sound). The story basically is about the girls of CHERRSEE visiting a diner and they mess with Feeldog, creating a huge mess in his restaurant. He finds out that the girls were behind it and they left their number behind and he smiles at it. I don’t know; even if they were cute, I’d be pissed that a bunch of girls wrecked my diner.

My Thoughts on JYP’s “Still Alive” Music Video

JYP writes a song about why he’s the greatest in “Still Alive.”

It’s a fun song in which JYP details his singing career and popularity since the 90s. He basically toots his own horn the entire time, but it’s not like what he’s saying isn’t true. The video is the best part, as he dresses up in different era costumes showing that he’s been around for them all. My favorite part is how he re-creates all his CD covers. Can’t forget to mention that he brought back his notorious plastic pants too.

My Thoughts on 10cm’s “What the Spring?” Music Video

10cm comes back with the most bitter song in the world”What the Spring?”

Springtime is when cherry blossoms are in full bloom and couples often come out to see the trees and falling petals. In other words, it’s generally a pretty romantic time. 10cm decide to play bitter single men in their latest track “What the Spring?,” in which they criticize all the couples being in love and say they’ll fall apart just like the falling cherry blossom petals. It’s funny how bitter the lyrics are, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some people actually feel this way.

I love how the video re-creates Kwon Jung Yeol as The Little Prince with his signature yellow scarf, trying to escape his tiny planet. Once he does, he sadly finds his “lovely rose” is with another rose. It’s a sad twist to The Little Prince story, but it’s definitely entertaining.

My Thoughts on Amber’s “Borders” Music Video

Amber releases a solo track “Borders” as part of SM’s Station project.

Just to get this out there first, I respect Amber’s and her message that she conveyed through her song. It isn’t easy to be authentic in the world of K-pop and there’s a lot of struggles that are hidden behind a glamorous facade. I think it’s great that she shared such a personal piece of her story in her music.

The video features Amber in a cube of lights, while showing snippets of other people facing different struggles. It’s meant to be simple and I think it fits well with the message she’s trying to convey. As for the song, and I’m speaking strictly about the music, not the message, it doesn’t really leave any impact. To me, the song had a great message, but didn’t have the right sound to make it memorable musically.

My favorite thing has to be her light up cube and how the video ended with a side turning off one by one, signifying that she’s overcoming these borders.

My Thoughts on Eric Nam’s “Good For You” Music Video

Eric Nam makes his comeback with “Good For You.”

Known by many as Korea’s representative 엄친아, Eric Nam lives up to the name with his latest “Good For You.” He essentially sings about always being there ready to comfort/support his lover and being “good for her.” Couple that song message with Eric’s warm vocals and it’s a surefire way to have listeners swooning. The video features Eric as a radio host of some sort, singing  on the radio as listeners with various problems tune in and are soothed by his song.

My Thoughts on 4TEN’s “Severely” Music Video

4TEN releases new title track “Severely.”

Literally the only thing that came to mind was that this sounds like an anime opening theme. I actually could not concentrate on the video at all and just kept imagining epic anime sequences to this song. Maybe that would have made for a more complementary video. I don’t remember anything. This isn’t even a music video review, sorry. But honestly, how anime theme song is this??

My Thoughts on WINNER’s “Sentimental” Music Video

WINNER makes their long-awaited comeback with a series of music videos with this post featuring “Sentimental.”

I have to say the song doesn’t really grip me, but it reminds me a lot of GD’s “Missing You,” which I love (largely because of Kim Yoon Ah’s featured vocals). While “Sentimental” doesn’t hold my attention all that much, I really love the video concept of filming various scenes from above. Moreover, the rooms are decorated with such aesthetically pleasing color schemes, which makes the overhead filming all the more enjoyable. I also really appreciate the intentionally mega cheesy dance moves that fit pretty perfectly with the swaying melody.  Rather than the song (despite being a decent tune), I’d more likely recommend people to check out the video for the visuals.
