My Thoughts on BEAST’s “Ribbon” Music Video

BEAST makes their return as 5 members with title track “Ribbon.”

The song is about repairing a broken relationship like tying a ribbon together again. Although I’m not a fan of the pants, I think the group was going for a pierrot look which fits the song. The ribbons around their necks are a bit too long and just dangle all over the place, so they don’t really look that great, but considering the song meaning, I get it (but I just don’t like to look at it).

As for the song, I think BEAST is one of those groups that’s good at performing sad pop songs with choreography; it’s like their thing. My one peeve with the song is that something about the violin doesn’t sound like it’s a real violin (like the sound is synthetically created or was altered), which bothers me a little bit and I would much prefer it if it was just a real violin. Otherwise, it’s nice to see the boys back.

My Thoughts on MELODYDAY’s “Color” Music Video

MelodyDay is back with “Color.”

The video begins in black and white and the girls are eating at a diner, when suddenly a man in color walks takes a seat at a table and the girls can’t stop fawning over him. As they each approach him they grow in color and try to get his attention. I think the video is cute, but the song doesn’t really do it for me. Their outfits are cute and I like the scenes where they color items in with brushes and lipstick, but as cute as the video is it’s not enough to distract me from the ordinariness of the song.

My Thoughts on ASTRO’s “Breathless” Music Video

ASTRO is back as cute as ever with “Breathless.”

The boys are just as cutie as they were in their debut track “Hide & Seek” and focus a lot on colors in this music video as well. They’re like bottles of soda? And their clothes changes color depending on what color soda is in their bottles? It’s a bit of an interesting and odd concept, but I guess you just have to go with it. The highlighted colors of this MV are orange and blue, seen in their matching outfits, so going with complementary colors this time around (wasn’t a fan of the green in their debut video). The song really suits summer and with 2 title tracks out, I guess you can say their style is very energetic, cute pop.

Totally random, but I love how there’s a random goose in this video.

My Thoughts on SONAMOO’s “I Like U Too Much” Music Video

SONAMOO is back with “I Like U Too Much.”

Like many other girl groups, this music video shows the girls as if the viewer is looking through the eyes of the camera, while the girls interact with the camera/viewer. I actually really liked how they did it in this video, so props to the girls for their acting. I found it to be quite charming. What makes the music video for me is their energy and they looked like they were really enjoying the playful song.

My Thoughts on ROMEO’s “MIRO” Music Video

ROMEO gets funky for “MIRO.”

From what I remember, ROMEO’s been going in a more funky pop direction, so musically they’re going in a place I like. Can’t say I like this more than their jazzy “Nightmare,” but by the looks of their choreography, it looks like they’re stepping it up too. Unfortunately, ROMEO really needs help in the wardrobe department, as their outfits always seem like their coordinators just follow the trend, but really late and not even variations of the trend.

Most importantly, this music video makes me wonder why they casted SHINee’s Minho and how much they paid him to be some magic orchestrator of mazes. It’s just a little odd since the song is about a person/love interest constantly trapping them in a maze of attraction and well… that’s what Minho is doing… so is Minho supposed to be their love interest…?

My Thoughts on PLEDIS Girlz’s “We” Music Video

PLEDIS debuts their new girl group PLEDIS Girlz with “We.”

Not the most original group name, but well, that’s okay I guess. I first heard them when they sang a cover of labelmate NU’EST’s “Overcome,” which I found really impressive. Their debut song does less to show their talent and more to show their cutie innocence with a pretty safe song. Although, there does seem to be a little bit of romantic tension going on with all the eyes these girls are making at each other or is that just me?

My Thoughts on BEAST’s “Butterfly” Music Video

BEAST makes their return as 5 members with “Butterfly.”

I’d say it’s usually pretty hard to make a ballad music video not boring especially ones that only involve singing scenes and no storyline, but this music video succeeds with all of its pretty nature visuals of hydrangeas and lush greenery galore. As for wardrobe, simple works best here, as they dressed in pressed white shirts and black/maroon pants. It was a really nice watch.

My Thoughts on Taeyeon’s “Why” Music Video

Taeyeon is back solo again with “Why.”

Though not as beautiful as her first music video in New Zealand, this video has a lot of pretty shots (as expected of a Taeyeon music video). What caught my attention from the video is her numerous outfits, so for the most part, I’ll just be talking about her best pieces for this post.

Love her sunglasses in the opening scene. Long plaid tops with crop tops and shorts are summer staples. Also, really liked her pull over with the heart cutouts. I would probably have styled it differently on her, but there’s some nice outfits to be made with that top! I was not expecting her boxy sleeveless dress when she’s playing with the suds, but it was really interesting to see her where such a typically fancy dress as casual wear.

The song took a couple of listens to grow on me, but it got me. Love the trop house breakdown in the middle of the song!

My Thoughts on MADTOWN’s “Emptiness” Music Video

MADTOWN slows it down for their latest song, “Emptiness.”

The first thing I thought when I heard the song is that the melody reminded me of iKON’s “My Type.” They both have that really lulling rap sound. And unfortunately for that, it makes this song not really my type. It doesn’t have enough of an impact on me to make it memorable. The music video goes along with the “empty” message, as it’s all filmed in black and white, while the girl continually dissipates into air. Overall, it’s not a very strong comeback song amongst all the other competing upbeat/energetic summer songs, so this seems more like an unconventional move on MADTOWN’s part. Perhaps it serves more as a gift to the fans have something to listen to.
