My Thoughts on XIA’s “Rock the World” Music Video

XIA is back with “Rock the World.”

As always, it’s hard to tell what XIA’s got next for his listeners, as he switches it up and tries all different kinds of musical styles. “Rock the World” certainly sounds different compared to his previous title tracks. I’m not exactly sure how to describe it, but it’s got quite a lot of things going on it. Like many others, I was really surprised by the pre-chorus which has a grand, musical sound (very XIA-like) which was kind of thrown in the middle of a pop track. Loved The Quiett featuring in the song though. It’s a unique track that just proves you never really know what XIA’s going to do next.

The video starts off with XIA being fed a poisoned apple by a woman. He ends up trapped and chained in a room with tarot cards. He picks up each of them and the viewer sees how it relates to his situation. I liked the visuals for when the “hanged man” card is represented by a man levitating in chains, who is being controlled like a puppet by the female lead (who looks like she’s got some Fan Bing Bing-esque styling). But when XIA turns the “wheel of fortune card,” he also turns the “hanged man” card upside down, so he’s standing and thus free from the woman; that was pretty clever. Later, he also turns over “the tower” card and is seen burning down a building, probably symbolism for defeating the woman and overtaking the establishment. Despite not feeling the choreo or outfitting, I found the video concept to be really engaging.
