My Thoughts on SISTAR’s “I Like That” Music Video

SISTAR returns with “I Like That.”

You can always count on SISTAR to make a comeback during their summer. Personally, I thought “Shake It” from last year fell quite short from their previous summer hits, but I think SISTAR made up for it with “I Like That.” On top of that, I love how the dance incorporates their skirts as props and the backup dancers do some pretty creative stuff with their skirts as well.

However, I think the music video filming really isn’t all that impressive. There’s a lot of stuff going on that doesn’t all tie together, but what I didn’t like about the video was the filming; it didn’t seem all that high quality and cut away from scenes at odd timing in my opinion. There are a lot of great sets and I just think the filming style didn’t do it justice. I actually enjoyed watching the dance practice a lot more than the actual music video. Can we get a do over?

My Thoughts on BoA x Beenzino’s “No Matter What” Music Video

Boa collaborates with Beenzino on “No Matter What” for the SM Station project.

This music video!! I love the visuals so much!! The colors!! The shapes!! All the figures look like they’re made of paper, but done in a digital way that’s just more fluid than if this were a stop motion of paper cut figures. Already in love with the style. And the video is just all about flora and planets aka my favorite things.

I could probably watch this forever.

My Thoughts on San E, Raina’s “Sugar and Me” Music Video

San E and Raina team up again for “Sugar and Me.”

I wish I was the leading lady of this music video. She literally just eats an assortment of sweets and pastries the entire 3 minutes through, which probably means she’s probably been eating for a few hours of filming. Sounds like my idea of a good time.

The song really is quite mediocre and the two are probably just collaborating because it’s always seemed to work before. Really, the only thing here is the sweets and that’s only enjoyable for those with a sweet tooth.

My Thoughts on SEVENTEEN’s “Love Letter” Music Video

SEVENTEEN releases a music video for “Love Letter.”

This is one of those cutesy for-the-fan videos, but it’s actually one of the better filmed ones with a lot of locations and good quality filming. There’s a lot of random stuff that goes on in here like riding bikes, playing in a pool and rocking out in a (party) bus.

The only things of note to me are the fact that they’re running around in white/blue/pink suit-esque outfits on the beach/meadow is kind of strange and whoever does that water hair flip in the pool is making me laugh until the end of time. Otherwise, generally cute.

My Thoughts on Younha’s “Get It?” Music Video

Younha comes back with a totally different sound in “Get It?” featuring HA:TFELT (Wonder Girls’ Ye Eun) and Cheetah.

I would have never expected these three to come together, but I’m so very glad they did. To be honest, it’s not because of the song because it’s a bit more peppy than I would prefer, considering all the attitude they’re giving in the video, which makes the watch so worthwhile. I totally love their sassy, arrogant performance and their styling is on point. If I could have my way, I’d have the three collaborate again with a much more badass song.

My Thoughts on Tiffany’s “Heartbreak Hotel” Music Video

Tiffany sings “Heartbreak Hotel” featuring Simon D for SM’s Station project.

Seems kind of weird that Tiffany is next up on SM’s Station project when she just recently made her solo debut. If anything, it seems like this song should have just been a part of her solo efforts.

The video mostly takes place in a bar/club, where Tiffany met her lover, breaks up with him and sees him again. Basically, it’s a place that holds a lot of memories for her and she went there to have fun, to drown in her sorrows and find a new love, while bumping into an old one. With that kind of setting, it makes sense the lighting is all dim and lit up by neon/fluorescent lights.

Personally, I much prefer this song and video to her actual solo debut song; it feels like they should have swapped these songs and she should have just done “I Just Wanna Dance” for the SM Station project.

My Thoughts on Jeong Jinwoon’s “Will” Music Video

Earlier this month, former 2AM member Jeong Jinwoon released “Will” featuring Tiger JK.

This is the first time (to my knowledge) that I’ve heard Jinwoon’s solo work and I’m not sure if rock is the genre he’s pursuing as a solo artist, but it totally suits him. I’m more accustomed to his ballads when he was in 2AM, so “Will” was a really pleasant surprise for me.

I love how the video was filmed with all the really interesting cubic sets. The lighting and filming fit so well with the groovy sound, but most importantly Jinwoon’s swaying, yet charged performance is what makes the video so enjoyable.

p.s. Not a fan of his pants, but I can easily overlook it because of his great performance.

My Thoughts on SS301’s “AH-HA” Music Video

SS301 is back with “AH-HA.”

Is it just me or does it look like they’ve regressed in age? This feels like this is the youngest they’ve ever looked since… ever. It probably has a lot to do with the look of this video, as they’re dressed in some pretty young, trendy clothes. Plus, the theme of the video is about I guess performing/hanging out in unrestricted areas, where security constantly comes running in looking for them, but never finding them. Alongside the concept, I like how they included CCTV-like footage as if that’s what the security is seeing before they try to bust them.

SS501 is one of the groups I grew up with so it’s great seeing members of the group still performing together. They also haven’t lost their humor as they’ve been tons of fun to work with on Mwave Meet & Greet, so be sure to check out our sessions with them!

My Thoughts on EXO’s “Monster” Music Video

EXO is back with two title tracks with this post featuring “Monster.”

EXO turns into tough bad boys in “Monster” as they get roughed up by the establishment. But, the song is about a guy who is in love with a girl and tells her not to be afraid to love him, despite being a “monster.”

The gritty filming technique effectively sets the mood for EXO’s new dark concept. The boys bring out the choreo for “Monster” and it features some impressive formations and footwork. What makes the video for me is seeing them really get into character ’cause I wouldn’t describe EXO as “tough” (they’re more… pretty to me), but they pull off the bad boy character and the powerful, precise execution of the choreo solidifies the video.

My Thoughts on EXO’s “Lucky One” Music Video

EXO is back with two title tracks with this post featuring “Lucky One.”

“Lucky One” is a groovy track that’s got such a catchy instrumental that I was instantaneously hooked. I can only hope the song has equally engaging choreography. Speaking of dancing, it’s slightly random that Kai had a dance solo in the video.

The boys are trapped in an asylum of sorts, but they make their escape using their super powers (?). I was kind of hoping their super powers would just be left behind in MAMA era, but they just had to come back. I guess Kai’s superior dancing and Lay’s flower booming abilities have the capabilities to blow up nurses’ heads and set the boys free. I also guess it will forever be a theme in which the video will zoom out and reveal that EXO is struggling to escape another maze of their logo.
