Block B is back with “A Few Years Later.”
I was expecting for Block B to come back with something loud and obnoxiously playful like they usually do, but instead, they went for the exact opposite: soft, gentle and sentimental. Of course, the song still holds some of that Block B personality listeners are familiar with as the tone shifts whenever a rapper’s verse takes place, especially P.O’s rough verse after the bridge. I feel that the song has a very distinct sound that makes it easy to identify as a Block B song, despite not being in their signature noisy sound. I actually really like that they decided to tackle a different, slower style for a title track, as it ended up highlighting different aspects of the group that aren’t usually in the spotlight like the group’s pleasant vocals.
The video’s visuals are also really crisp and clean. This video features the calm, retrospective side of Block B with minimal action going on in all the singing scenes. To me, it feels like this is the first time I can get a look at the members, since they’re usually running around, being aggressive or acting crazy; it’s a nice change that may have seemed very un-Block B-like, but I think it actually helped Block B distinguish itself.
