My Thoughts on ASTRO’s “HIDE&SEEK” Music Video

ASTRO makes their debut with “HIDE&SEEK.”

Personally, I would like K-pop to stop using the phrase “꼭 꼭 숨어라 머리카락 보일라” or any variation of it because it’s getting old now. And it’s just so easy to throw that into a song to fill in some lines. But, I’m going to let it go this time because it actually makes sense this time and the whole song is actually about the concept of  being able to “seek” a girl from a crowd because she shines brighter than anyone else and that even if she “hides” he’ll always be able to spot her.

There are a lot of nice things about this video, but what I like best is that they incorporate their logo into the video, 2 yellow triangles that overlap similar to the Star of David. And so, there are a lot of triangles/pyramids in the video (which could make you think illuminati), starting from the very beginning when they wear blue and dance inside an open pyramid and all the way throughout. By the way, yellow/blue color schemes are always perfect, but their green outfit scenes were quite the eyesore. In any case, the girl and the boys are like in 2 different dimensions and they can’t meet each other, but once they form the two triangles and it comes together, they “meet” in her dimension as a CD. So it’s like you can “meet” ASTRO by owning and listening to their CD, which I think is a pretty interesting way to present a debut.

Oh yeah, I super loved the scene that’s filmed from above of their shadows marching in place. It’s a really visually  interesting scene using different perspective and I commend whoever came up with that.
