f(x) makes their long-awaited comeback with “4 Walls.”
As many listeners have also noted, f(x)’s latest title track has a very similar deep house sound that labelmates SHINee tried out in their track “View,” which worked out really well for them. f(x)’s vocals definitely suit the style, but while 4 Walls is pleasant to listen to, it lacks the memorability of a title track. But, it’s still got that lowkey catchy factor to it. I think it would still make a great track on an album, but maybe not as the leading song. It feels like with all the great hype SM put out there leading up to the release, “4 Walls” should have been more.
The music video is pretty abstract. My guess is that all 4 members are just trapped in this endless cycle of drifting between the real/dream world. What I liked about the video is how it started off filmed as a square (probably to reflect the song title) and once Victoria slips on water and enters the dream world, it transforms into a rectangle. Not anything particular major, but I thought it was a very nice touch.
